Josh is a well respected and experienced Barrister specialising in criminal law. Josh has appeared on a wide range of civil and criminal matters at almost all levels including murder, rape, class A drug dealing and proceeds of crime matters. Josh has appeared as Counsel in over 70 trials in both the District and High Courts and has earned praise from colleagues and the bench for his uncompromising work ethic, critical thinking and legal acumen.
Prior to joining the independent bar Josh was a director and senior Crown Prosecutor at Wilkinson-Smith Harvey Lawyers, in Whanganui. He is still regularly instructed by Crown Solicitors Office's nationwide to Prosecute serious crime.
Josh is a passionate and relentless advocate who will approach your case with care and compassion. His approach combines a meticulous and ruthless commitment with a common sense, pragmatic approach to get the best outcome for his clients.
On a personal note Josh is Māori (Tainui, Ngāti Maniapoto) and German. He enjoys rugby league, American Football, boxing and Lacrosse. As a former international Lacrosse player (New Zealand and Hong Kong) Josh earned accolades as a vicious and unforgiving defender, a mindset he which he is still able to call on in defence of his clients.
Josh is available for private work of all kinds. Josh is also approved to provide legal aid for criminal trials at all levels up to and including murder charges. Josh regularly conducts appeal work on behalf of clients and is approved to appear on matters in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
